When the monsoon comes the rainfall starts. the mid-monsoon period is from June to August. During this period heavy rainfall occurs. Pre-monsoon starts in April. Little rainfall is noticed post-monsoon. In this way, the monsoon is not rain but it is the periodic or seasonal wind that causes rain.
During the winter, the sea remains hot whereas the land becomes cold therefore, the air pressure above sea level is low and the air pressure above land is high. The air flows from land to sea in winter. It is also called land Breeze. This wind is dry since it flows from land. Hence, it does not cause rain. this is called the winter monsoon.
The sea becomes cold and becomes hot during the summer season. the air pressure is high above sea level and the air flows to land from the sea. It contains water vapor and hence, causes rain. this is called the summer monsoon.
Monsoon flows towards the sea for 6 months and towards the land for the rest of the months. Therefore, it is called periodic wind. Monsoon climate is found in southeast, Asia, China, and Korea. The monsoon is dry during winter and it is moist during the summer season. It is the feature of the Monsoon.
From Where Monsoon Comes in Nepal? (My Country)
The monsoon comes from the Bay of Bengal which lies in the southeast direction of Nepal. More rainfall is noticed in the Eastern region due to this monsoon. Comparatively, rainfall is low in the western part of Nepal the average annual rainfall in mid Hills is 150 - 250 mm. This area is opposite the monsoon.
Effects of Monsoon
rainwater is the main source of irrigation in monsoon-based countries like Nepal. The monsoon is very important for agriculture. It is used for irrigation which increases agricultural production. It helps to increase the level of underground water and hence, supplies drinking water for us. Springs of water originated. The water flows in rivers increases due to the monsoon and hydroelectricity production increases accordingly, it makes the feeling of coldness during mid-summer.
Heavy rainfall due to monsoon to monsoon causes floods, landslides, soil erosion, the sinking of plain areas, etc. It has caused heavy loss of life and property every year.
